Super Smash Bros. Brawl

RSBE01

Mr. Game and Watch Glitches the game and messes with 2D/3D surfaces.

The Game bugs out like crazy when fighting Game&Watch to the point where things are missing and disappearing. 2D and 3D things start to disappear.

Using any later build of Dolphin after the official 3.5 will recreate the problem on DX9 backend and DX11.

The problem does not happen in the official builds of Dolphin (3.5) but happens in ANY build after it. Although you might say well...then just use the official build but eventually the later build will become the new official version and this problem will still follow. I tried all settings and nothing fixes the problem. (Real XFB, No XFB, Virtual XFB, moving the Texture Accuracy Slider, OpenMP, Cache Display Lists, all resolutions, DX9, DX11, and OpenGL, and still a no go)

64 or 32 bit Dolphin? 64bit Dolphin

Dolpin official 3.5 used to work fine.

My PC: Windows 8 Pro, Core 2 Quad Q9400 @ 3.0Ghz, Nvidia GeForce GTX 470 SC, 4GB DDR2 @ 1066

I'm on a 64 bit Operating system

Confirmed. Good news and bad news. Good news first: in 3.5-604, the missing effects only appears in D3D9, where-as it affected all backends in 3.5-477. The bad news is that Mr. Game and Watch causes other problems that the OP didn't point out and those are still present in all backends.

First up, the missing effects that he pointed out. As for 3.5-604, they only appear in D3D9, but they happen with both EFB to Texture and EFB to Ram. Ness's effects cut out exactly as he said, but so do Pikachu's and a whole bunch of other characters. It appears to affect a whole class of effects used by the game. I tried to pin it down on a specific move Game and Watch performed, but it doesn't appear to be related to a move at all. Also, some stages appear to make this happen faster than others, but I wasn't able to get a pattern so it could just be randoms screwing with my brain.

But there are the other problems that the OP didn't point out, and they still affect all backends. If Game and Watch reaches the end of the stage, and appears in a bubble arrow, the stage will glitch. How severely depends on the stage. Final Destination barely glitches at all (just the stars/water vanishing), Bridge of Eldin shows most of the level as ink but still shows characters, and Skyworld just shows a turns the screen -completely black- till Game and Watch dies or comes back onto the screen. It also seems to have gotten worse since 3.5-477.

It also causes the battle statistics to not show up. Sometimes it will appear though.

This problem also causes the game HUD to vanish. This is pretty random and it will reappear right away, so it's the most minor of the bunch. Annoying though, and tough to get a picture of. Trust me, that pic is of active gameplay, not paused or anything. No cheating.

Curiously, these problems only happen with Game and Watch. The Flat Zone 2 stage, despite having tons of flat effects, does not cause any problems.

Tested 3.5-477 x64 (re435851e7a8dd56c94bb9bdc30f4c60c5b561163) and 3.5-604 x64 (r9a3633924df3a30dccea7ddb67ffddcf4ea5ee5c).

Tested on:
Core i5 3570k @ 4.7ghz
Geforce GTX275
Windows 7 x64

Here's some Fifo logs.

Finally did the revision testing.

3.5-1282 win64 - Broken
3.5-1311 win64 - Broken

3.5-149 is rbe706a397720. In 3.5-1311, it affects D3D9 and OpenGL. D3D11 still doesn't have it. To recall, originally it affected all backends, and then changes to only affecting D3D9, and now it affects D3D9 and OpenGL. Yea... weird. But 3.5-149 is where it all began.

Correction: Tested 3.5-149, and D3D11 is not affected. D3D9 and OpenGL however are.
