Description

Game Name?
Fatal Frame 4: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse (english patch)

Game ID?
R4ZJ01

What's the problem? Describe what went wrong in few words.
After restoring power to the breaker in chapter 4, you follow a ghost through a door, which locks. when you try to open the door, a ghost attacks. I defeated the ghost and the game crashed with an infinite string of Invalid Read errors.

What did you expect to happen instead?
No crash.

What steps will reproduce the problem?

  1. Play chapter 4 up to the Boiler Room and turn on the power.
  2. Follow the ghost through the door, then try to go back the way you came.
  3. Defeat the ghost and crash.

Dolphin 3.5 and 3.5-367 are old versions of Dolphin that have
known issues and bugs, so don't report issues about them and test the
latest Dolphin version first.
Which versions of Dolphin did you test on?
4.0-5099

What are your PC specifications? (including, but not limited to: Operating
System, CPU and GPU)

Is there any other relevant information? (e.g. logs, screenshots,
configuration files)
There was an infinite number of errors that appeared until I force-quit Dolphin, but they all had the basic "Invalid Read from <numbers>,PC <numbers>." The numbers changed every time.

I'm using the default INI.

Note: The ghost won't attack if you try to leave too soon - you have to head down the staircase until you see the non-hostile ghost on the stairs, then go back and try to open the door.

I tried it again, this time with MMU forced on, and it did not crash. Might be the workaround.

MMU may cause some fallbacks. Can you try this on interpreter (warning, will be really slow) with MMU off?

I might not have a save in that area anymore, If I do I'll check.

There was already issue 4138 for this

I'm replaying it now, once I get back to the part that caused the crash (should be a day or two), I'll try it twice, first in normal JIT with MMU off and logging on, then in Interpreter with MMU off. I'll post my results once I have them.

Since the recent patch enabled MMU for this game, should I bother forcing MMU off for the test like JMC asked?

You can also finally close issue 4138
