Description

Game Name?

Bakugon Battle Brawlers (Toys R Us Edition) - RUHX52

What's the problem? Describe what went wrong.

I had to modify my game disc in order to tell the emulator it's not a PAL disc. By default, if I load RUHX52 into Dolphin, it assumes that it is a PAL regioned game. This is incorrect; it's an NTSC game, I've played this very disc on my NTSC Wii. So why the hell is Dolphin launching my NTSC game in the PAL region? Because the region code is "X" instead of "E". Seriously. The game runs too slow, FMVs are messed up, and other defects occur.

Now here's where it gets a bit more interesting. RUHE52 is the "normal" Bakugon Battle Brawlers game id; so, by hex editing mine to return that game ID, the game launches normally. Why are we relying on the game ID to set video modes?

What steps will reproduce the problem?

Have RUHX52 and run it in Dolphin.

Which versions of Dolphin did you test on? Does using an older version of Dolphin solve your issue? If yes, which versions of Dolphin used to work?

Not Applicable.

What are your PC specifications? (CPU, GPU, Operating System, more)

Core i5 3570K, GTX 760, Windows 7

Is there any other relevant information? (e.g. logs, screenshots,
configuration files)

I could show a screenshot of it running 25/50 instead of 30/60, but honestly, I really don't care to and it won't really add to the issue.

Confirmation that RUHX52 is in fact a valid GameID of an actual game from gametdb.com

http://www.gametdb.com/Wii/RUHX52

And here are others with the X region that I found on GameTDB.

SFXXKM - X Factor PAL
RWUX52 - X-Men Origins: Wolverine NTSC
RH4XUG - Hamster Heroes PAL
RPCX7J - Puzzler Collection PAL
RRSX4Q - Meet The Robinsons PAL
R38X78 - Marvel Super Hero Squad: Walmart Edition NTSC
R8OX54 - It's My Circus PAL
RJ9XML - Think Logic Trainer PAL
RUXXUG - Urban Extreme: Street Rage PAL
RC3X41 - Catz PAL
RXUX41 - Surf's Up PAL
RYQX69 - Trivial Pursuit Nordic PAL
SHOXKR - Hugo: Magic in the Troll Woods PAL
RWZX5G - Wonder World Amusement Park PAL
RP9XRS - Space Chimps PAL
R4LXUG - Athletic Piggy Party PAL
RU5X4Q - Disney: The Princess and the Frog PAL
RRXXUG - Monster Trux Arenas PAL

And JMC47 found some others as well.

RSKE52 = Shrek The Third
RSKP52 = Shrek The Third
RSKX52 = Shrek The Third

RS3E52 = Spider-Man 3
RS3J52 = Spider-Man 3
RS3P52 = Spider-Man 3
RS3X52 = Spider-Man 3

Note that just about all of these have a release already (such as the editions), and even more common is for them to have a smaller than usual language subset, which I would assume is a secondary PAL release for a different country set. Based on that, I'm getting the feeling that this X region is a wildcard for rereleases, so they can use the same gameid. The problem is that we can't know for sure which region an X game is!

I'd like to take care of this some time, but it might take a while. If someone else wants do do this, just assign the issue to yourself.

It would be nice if a fix could be implemented more quickly for this. The resolution for the moment seems to be to revise the GameID in the disc images, which could lead to other issues as reports come in with invalid/mixed-up GameIds. Please chime in on the Wiki if a resolution not involving creating hacked up disc images is known.

RWUX52 - X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not NTSC. So it seems for now the only other known effected title would be:
R38X78 - Marvel Super Hero Squad: Walmart Edition

A few other effect titles though some of these ones use a "Y" identifier...
Just Dance 2 - Best Buy Edition [SD2Y41]
Just Dance 3 - Best Buy Edition [SJDY41]
Disney The Princess and the Frog (Riverboat Jazz Edition) [RU5Y4Q]

A list of effected titles can now be found on the wiki via: https://wiki.dolphin-emu.org/index.php?title=Template:Problems/Incorrect_Region

It seems that using PAL60 mode corrects the timing issues seen, so we are recommending that as a fix rather than revising GameIDs. Oh, and I'm not 100% sure Crazy Mini Golf 2 is quite the same issue, as GameTDB lists it as a PAL release. It won't boot at all unless PAL60 enabled though, so it was addressed by the same fix in any case.
